Fix video playback issue on LibreWolf appimage
I was having a
playback issue for a
specific website that uses Plyr.io player to play YT videos. (YT works fine BTW.) I use LibreWolf appimage release and as a workaround I needed to modify
librewolf.cfg
. I did:
mkdir -p /tmp/lw
cp LibreWolf-84.0.2-2.x86_64.AppImage /tmp/lw/
cd /tmp/lw
./LibreWolf-84.0.2-2.x86_64.AppImage --appimage-extract
sed -i 's/"network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy", 1/"network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy", 0/' squashfs-root/librewolf.cfg
#If you have appimagetool
appimagetool -v squashfs-root
#I didn't have the appimagetool, so I used appimage
curl -LO https://github.com/AppImage/AppImageKit/releases/download/12/appimagetool-x86_64.AppImage
chmod +x appimagetool-x86_64.AppImage
./appimagetool-x86_64.AppImage -v squashfs-root
cp LibreWolf-x86_64.AppImage /path/to/where/you/use/it/LibreWolf-84.0.2-2.x86_64.AppImage
The
network.http.referer.XOriginPolicy
value will
hopefully be editable from about:config in future, so you won't have to do all these. I've also
suggested to implement an override file from ~ or ~/.config so that this hassle doesn't need to be done.
I like LibreWolf so far. In the world of semi open source browsers we need a browser which has been hardened for privacy, Mozilla services stripped and libre. IceCat is not updating for a long time and LibreWolf is a nice way to get a libre* experience.
(* LibreWolf is still under development so it may have some issues to be sorted out. But still better than vanilla Firefox with it's beacons and "spying" services turned on by default. And don't
even get me
started on Chromium based browsers. )
